    Description

    This is a crooked sixpence - a double bent 6p used as a love token in the 1600's. These are almost always well worn out William III pieces. Many have been found near gates to old fields where county fairs were held in the 17th century. This one still has Williams name visible on it and as such is better than most.
    Perhaps the origin of this old nursery rhyme:
    There was a crooked man, and he walked a crooked mile.
    He found a crooked sixpence upon a crooked stile (gate).
    He bought a crooked cat, which caught a crooked mouse,
    And they all lived together in a little crooked house.
